My favorite internet radio station is back online https://www.radio.net/s/limbikfrequencies . Down tempo electric. Which was handy because I needed to do some physical writing (like pen and paper). Nothing like smooth grooves to grease the thought sponge into realization. I think that's how I'll refer to the brain from now on: "thought sponge".
Anyway.
Why do you think what you think? Or maybe you've never thought about it? How much of your inner cranium activity is a reaction to something from the past? How much is practiced reflexes? Where did I put that one pair of socks?
There were a few things I was thinking about lately that are strongly primarily cultural. The nuclear family unit popular in the US. This is where you have a mom, dad, kids and probably a pet. Why do we do it that way? I have a few problems with this - before your alarms go off and you suddenly feel the urge to turn caps lock on hang with me for just a second - what do you do when something happens to mom or dad. Who fills those roles? Does a child get "Promoted" suddenly?
A healthier alternative might be a family pack: You have a mom, dad, an uncle or two, a friend who's basically a brother, somebody's kids (who's are they again?), and sure let's add a goat for fun.
Or maybe a "tribe". A collection of people who will have your back. In my experience this has been less intimate than a cell or pack but it could work.
"Matt everything you are saying doesn't make any sense. I'm a home grown A'Merican. That's just not how we do things."
That is kinda the whole point. All I'm saying is that there are some inherent flaws in having the nuclear family unit, especially if that unit is standing alone. Community needs to be there to support mom, dad, kiddos and maybe even pets. However you do that I will leave up to you, I'm not bossing anyone around I'm just putting words into the ethersphere for you to think about.
The other thing I was thinking about was punctuality. This one is fun. If you've ever been to a country that has a different priority on punctuality, you're in for a treat, or at least a headache. Maybe you never thought about what punctuality meant or why it's so important to us. In Ye Old days the only times that matter were, is it planting time harvest time or cold time. That's a pretty flexible schedule. As long as you're within a few weeks you'll do ok. So why do we even have minutes, seconds, milliseconds. Productivity! and I'm going to just throw in the idea of the industrial revolution because it feels right. The more moving parts, the more complicated the structure, the more important timeliness becomes. However, even then some people may value quality time over punctuality, like a whole culture. Why does this matter? Why mention all this?
Well now you have a great source to show your boss next time you're five minutes late... Or, you know, just food for thought.
